Growing up as a refugee was difficult. There was a time when I saw no hope for my future. That made me very sad. There was a time when I felt so hopeless and in despair.
Education changed my life. I went from being a shy girl to a more confident woman. From feeling hopeless to feeling hopeful, from victim to activist fighting back against my oppressor, the Burmese military.

Will you make a donation to help fund a scholarship for Karen youth?
The Phan Foundation is raising money for a new scholarship fund that will not only transform the lives of students but also benefit the whole of society. Please make a donation and help transform a child’s life.
When I was growing up and as a young person, the thing that worried me the most was lack of education. That it would block my personal development and my ability to help free my people.
One day, to my amazement, my Head Teacher at FSP Mae La refugee camp in Thailand, Pu Taw, called me and told me I was one of the few students who had won a scholarship to study at a university. I was just so absolutely over the moon. Because I knew it was the beginning of a brighter future for me. That scholarship changed my life.
This year at Phan Foundation we have been designing and planning a new scholarship programme with the Karen Education and Culture Department. £250 or $300 will provide a scholarship for one student for a whole year.

Please join me, support the Phan Foundation and make a donation to help support our scholarship programme. Every donation small or big, will make a real difference for our Karen children and for our future.
Thank you,
Zoya Phan
