On 14th February 2008 Padoh Mahn Sha Lah Phan, General Secretary of the Karen National Union, was assassinated by agents of the Burmese dictatorship.
This February 14th, the 9th anniversary of the assassination, a statue of Padoh Mahn Sha will be unveiled in his home town of Pantanaw, Irrawaddy Delta. A memorial service will also be held.
Padoh Mahn Sha dedicated his life to the struggle for human rights, democracy and self-determination for the Karen people and for all the people of Burma. He was known as a principled, honest, strong and determined leader. He was committed to working with people of all ethnicities and religions, playing a key role in uniting opposition to the dictatorship.
